As some of you may have heard, Allie got new glasses last Thursday. Her vocabulary grade was awful. She was getting all A's & B's on all the other subjects, however in reading and vocab she was getting D's & F's!!! When I know she is a great reader and smarter than that... I asked her what was going on and she said she was having trouble seeing. After a couple of weeks of her making the same comment about her vision and me just thinking it was another episode like in kindergarten when she had to have glasses because another classmate had them, she finally broke down one night. I was laying in her bed with her one night and we were talking about school, then all of sudden she just started crying telling me about she is really worried about her grades, that when she blinked her eyes got blurry and that she finally told the teacher about it. Of course I felt awful and knew that this wasn't just a wardrobe must have she was going through. She was serious so then I too became very concerned. The next day I scheduled her an eye appointment and we went on Thurs. She was very nervous, which that is no surprise, Allie is nervous about anything and everything that is new.
Thank God we got a good recommendation about the doctor we chose. He was so good with Allie, and had a lot of experience with children that just thought they needed glasses but didn't. He assured me he had a fool proof test. After the quick examination, it turns out Allie is a slightly far sided, not blind but not perfect vision, to where her eye sight could of possibly effected her grade.
After the examination we went right next door to Vision 4 Less, which I have to say was FABULOUS in quality and service. It took us longer to pick out her frames then it did for them to make them!! The only crazy part about being in V4L that particular day was that it was "inmate day"!!!! As we were picking out frames and waiting for the glasses to be made, here walks in a whole crap load of inmates from the Rapides County Jail. I actually heard an old woman that sitting right next too us look out the window as the inmates were piling out of the white caged van say, "Oh shit, here they come...that's just Good Ol' Mighty Great!" While I didn't think much of the inmates coming there, her comments did brighten my day and make me laugh. The inmates of course scared the Hell out of Allie and made me want to vomit because every time I looked at one of them they were eyeballing a woman like they were Adam first spotting Eve! Yuck...anyway we got the glasses and got out of there as quickly as possible.
In the end, Allie looks great in her glasses and I will soon update everyone on her grades that will hopefully improve! They better for the $120.00 we spent that day! :0)
